Postnatal Care
Visits are held daily until day 4, then day 6, day 12 and then at 6 weeks. The woman is then referred to the community childhood centre for follow-up care.
During the postnatal period, the midwife is responsible for:
- Newborn screening test
- Monitoring well being of mother – breastfeeding, sutures, fundal involution etc
- Monitoring well being of baby – weight gain, jaundice, temperature regulation, bowel and bladder habits, etc•Breastfeeding advice
- SWISH hearing test
- GP follow up
- Blue book recording
- Other follow up care such as blood work or referrals to specialists such as Paediatricians.
