Antenatal Care

  • Booking: Janine offers herself as a Primary Midwife however two midwives are available to care for the woman. All issues surrounding the choice of midwifery care will be discussed.
  • A full medical, maternity and family history is taken.•Blood pressure, urine testing, monitoring of fetal growth and heart rate
  • Haematological testing and investigations when necessary.
  • Ultrasonic testing when required.•Discussion of tests routinely offered by mainstream system. Information packs are supplied. Example: Glucose tolerance test and Group B strep testing.
  • Visits are held: every 4 weeks to 28 weeks, every 2 weeks until 36 weeks and every week until 41 weeks.
  • Women are offered consultations with medical professionals should the need arise.
  • Weight as clinically indicated. 
  • The antenatal focus is on preventive care and early detection of complications. The midwife will refer to other health professionals if indicated.
  • Midwifery care is based on the current research and development in midwifery and Obstetric care.
  • If a medical problem arises antenatally then consultation with a specialist obstetrician either public or private will be sought. If the problem doesn’t require specialist consideration, then the woman may be referred to her GP.
